The Office of Human Resources serves as the first point of contact for prospective Botetourt County employees. We are responsible for coordinating the hiring process for all departments and offices that fall under the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors.

Botetourt County Library is seeking a part-time library assistant for the Eagle Rock Library just north of Eagle Rock, VA. Someone holding this position will usually work 20-25 hours a week mostly on afternoons and Saturdays. Ability to work until 7 PM three evenings a week and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays is required. Duties for this position include customer service at the circulation desk, shelving materials, helping patrons find information, providing assistance with computers and the online catalog and other duties as assigned. Applicants must have good clerical skills, the ability to use online library catalogs and good customer service skills. Applicants must have education equivalent to graduation from high school. Combination Building Inspector I

Botetourt County is accepting applications for the position of Combination Building Inspector I, in the Department of Community Development.

This position will conduct work activities in an office setting but mostly requires working in outside environmental conditions with exposure to residential construction jobsite hazards.

Starting salary for the position is based on experience and qualifications. Included with the compensation is an excellent benefits package including state retirement benefits through the Virginia Retirement System.

Preferred qualifica­tions in­clude:  

  • (3) years’ experience in general building construction, materials, practices and methods of design, or any combination of education and experience equivalent to may be considered
  • Thorough knowledge of County and related codes and ordinances pertaining to building construction, alteration and repair
  • Ability to detect structural and other faults, recommend correction and document detailed and accurate records
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints accurately to compare with construction progress

 Examples of this work include:

  • Ensures compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the County Code for residential building construction, alterations, repairs, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems
  • Exercises technical judgement in enforcing applicable codes and regulations
  • Reviews plans to ensure conformity to building codes and zoning ordinance

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • (4) Residential Inspection Certifications or have the ability to obtain (1) certification within (18) months of hire and the remaining certifications within (36) months of hire
  • Certification as a residential Building Plans Examiner or have the ability to obtain the certification within (36) months of hire
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License and a good driving record; both must be maintained throughout employment
  • General knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, gas or electrical systems
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work well with other staff, building owners, contractors and the public

EMT-Firefighter – BLS/ALS, full-time

Botetourt County is accepting applications for full-time EMT/Firefighter-BLS and EMT/Firefighter-ALS positions. These positions will report directly to the Department of Fire & EMS, but will work closely with volunteer fire & EMS agencies. Duties will primarily focus on the provision of emergency medical care with firefighting as a secondary focus.

Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age, valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record, current EVOC, current VDFP FF I or NFPA 1001 equivalent required, FFII preferred.  Virginia OEMS EMT-B (BLS), EMT-I or P (ALS) with verifiable field experience, current CPR, PEPP, PHTLS, and ACLS (ALS) preferred.

Must be able to pass standard medical exams and physical ability/practical skills tests. Will be required to perform all physical tasks associated with emergency medical services, fire suppression and related activities.

Library Director

Botetourt County (pronounced Bot-ah-tot); with an area of 542 square miles and a population of 33,100, is one of Virginia’s most scenic and historically significant counties. Nestled just north of Roanoke, Virginia, Botetourt County offers American history blended with nature and modern attractions.  When it was first established, the County extended all the way to the Mississippi River, covering parts of seven present-day states. Buchanan Volunteer Fire Chief

The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
