Botetourt County is accepting applications for full-time EMT/Firefighter-BLS and EMT/Firefighter-ALS positions. These positions will report directly to the Department of Fire & EMS and will work closely with volunteer fire & EMS agencies as a part of the combined Fire & EMS system. As a member of an all-hazards response organization, duties will include rescue and the provision of emergency medical care and transport of the sick and injured, firefighting, hazardous materials response, and community risk reduction.

Minimum Requirements: All candidates must be 21 years of age, valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record. Must be able to pass standard medical exams and physical ability/practical skills tests, to include CPAT within 1-year from date of employment or be able to show proof of a valid CPAT within the past 3-years. Will be required to perform all physical tasks associated with emergency medical services, fire suppression and related activities. All applicants must at least have 3 years of fulltime career fire and EMS experience and be able to clearly affirm such experience.

BLS applicants must also possess the following credentials: Virginia Emergency Medical Technician Certified, Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (minimum of class 2) and meet all other job requirements set forth in the BLS full time job description.   

ALS applicants must all posses the following credentials in addition to those of BLS applicants: Virginia Intermediate or Paramedic (National Registry preferred); ACLS, PEPP or PALS, PHTLS preferred, and meet all other job requirements set forth in the ALS full time job description.

Starting salary for the positions will be based on qualifications. Comprehensive benefit package includes VRS retirement (w/ LEOS), health, dental, and life insurance, EAP and educational reimbursement opportunities. Excellent opportunities for advancement.

Code Enforcement Officer

Botetourt County is recruiting for the position of Code Enforcement Officer to join our Department of Community Development. This is a, full-time position with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement.

Recently, Botetourt has been involved in a host of projects and exciting announcements which are furthering the Botetourt 2040 vision to “Honor our History, Enjoy the Present and Shape the Future.” The reconstruction of Interstate 81’s Exit 150 Access Management Project and the announced locations of a new auto parts manufacturing facility, a major craft brewery, and the Virginia Community College Shared Services Center all continue to facilitate the need for managing day-to-day zoning activities as well as sound comprehensive and long-range planning.

The selected candidate will have responsibility for performing varied professional assignments in the field of zoning enforcement. Success in this position requires the ability to effectively interact with a diverse community, apply complex code requirements to varied situations, navigate conflict and seeks positive solutions. An ideal candidate would be articulate, resourceful, patient and detail oriented.

This position requires experience with:

· Investigating zoning complaints

· Conducting field investigations and researching related information

· Understanding, communication and applying complex code requirements

· Working in a solution-oriented team atmosphere

Thorough knowledge of:

· Code enforcement process and legal procedures

· Reading and interpretation of state and county codes, building permits, site plans, and related zoning documents

The ability to:

· Effectively communicate with the public regarding the administration of the zoning ordinance

· Coordinate efforts with other departments and agencies

· Investigate violations of zoning regulations and ordinances, including site visits

· Prepare violations, notices and other related correspondence

· Develop and maintain automated tracking systems, hard copy files, and records

· Provide assistance to the County Attorney related to the prosecution of code enforcement cases

· Attend Board of Zoning Appeals, County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors meetings

Education and Experience:

· High School graduate and two (2) years experience in planning, zoning, code enforcement, land use regulations, including considerable public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform job duties.

Preferred:

· VAZO CZO or equivalent certification

· Knowledge of the principals and practices of professional planning and zoning

· Experience with effective ordinance interpretation and implementation

· Considerable knowledge of requirements for land use development, engineering practices, and applicable procedures

· Previous experience in law enforcement and/or the enforcement of state, local or federal codes, and regulations would be beneficial

Turf Manager

Botetourt County is recruiting for the position of Turf Manager to join our Department of Maintenance. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement.

The Turf Manager is responsible for the operation and maintenance of sports fields, manages and assists department staff, develops specifications for and oversees the purchase, inventory, maintenance and repair of products and equipment and the purchasing of services. Renders professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to supervisors and user groups, as required.

Responsibilities:

· Direct responsibility for implementing and managing programs for Tier 1 fields and oversight responsibility for implementing and managing for Tier 2 and Tier 3 fields

· Manages and assists in the implementation of a sport turf fertility program including irrigation

· Manages and assists with the athletic field maintenance and game set-up for sporting events; ensures fields are safe and playable

· Assists with and supports the development of annual operating and capital budgets and 5-year capital improvement plan

Knowledge of:

· Advanced knowledge of agronomy and environmental turfgrass management practices including pest/disease/weed management, an understanding of soil chemistry; thorough knowledge of fertilizers, nutrient supplements, pesticides and herbicides

· Knowledge of cool and warm season turf, working knowledge of sports field construction principles, practices and methods

· Thorough understanding of the sports governing bodies’ requirements for field layout and marking

· Supervising staff, creating and coordinating staff daily, weekly and monthly work schedules

Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in turf management or related field preferred

· 5 years professional experience in maintenance of grounds and sports fields or similar activities, including use of related tools, equipment and machinery required

· Minimum of 3 years responsible management experience, including the management of personnel and teams required

· 2 years experience administering a comprehensive turf management program required

Sports Field Technician

Botetourt County is recruiting for multiple Sports Field Technicians to join our Department of Maintenance These are full-time positions with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement.

The Sports Field Technician must have specialized knowledge of turf characteristics and maintenance as well as familiarity with sports field marking requirements and standards in order to operate and maintain Tier 1 sports fields.

Responsibilities:

Knowledge of:

· Any combination of experience equivalent to the requirement above may be accepted

· Experience with warm and cool season grass and the ability to differentiate the two

· Experience managing turf within the Transition Zone strongly preferred

The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
