The Office of Human Resources serves as the first point of contact for prospective Botetourt County employees. We are responsible for coordinating the hiring process for all departments and offices that fall under the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors.

Library Assistant, Full-time (Eagle Rock)

Botetourt County Library is currently seeking a full-time employee to fill the position of Library Assistant at the Eagle Rock branch. Duties for this position include providing service to library patrons at the circulation desk such as checking materials in and out, shelving, assisting with the internet, and providing information as requested.  Will also assist with children’s and young adult programming.  Applicants should be willing to work until 7 PM two evenings a week and occasional Saturdays if needed

Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additional education and library experience are a plus but not required.

Starting salary will be $21,775.00 with an excellent benefit package.

Accounting Clerk, part-time – Sign-on Bonus

Botetourt County has an immediate opening for the position of Accounting Clerk in our Financial Services Department.

The position requires general office and bookkeeping skills with emphasis on Accounts Payable and General Ledger Software/Database applications.  Candidates should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, excellent communication, mathematical, analytical and organizational skills. Job duties would also include project work as assigned.

The position will work approximately 24 hours per week with a flexible schedule.  Time will be worked weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Starting pay will be $12.50 per hour.

Additional $500 bonus after 15 months of employment.

Agricultural Development Officer – Sign-on Bonus

Botetourt County (546 square miles with a population of 33,100) is one of Virginia’s most scenic and historically significant counties. Nestled just north of Roanoke, Virginia, Botetourt County offers a slice of Americana, with charming small towns and southern hospitality in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has traditionally been a rural county heavily reliant on agriculture. Once widely known for its poultry, orchards, and tomatoes, which was later replaced by a large number of dairy operations. Recently beef cattle and forage crops account for the bulk of agricultural activity. The County has many assets for supporting a viable agricultural industry, including plenty of open space, good soil quality, and ample water supply and currently the County hosts several orchards, three (3) wineries and numerous farms that produce specialty products and promote agritourism and value-added products.

County residents and local leaders continue to place a high value on preserving the farm economy in order to safeguard the environment, quality of life and sustain the agricultural sector as part of the economic base.

Botetourt County is recruiting for the position of Agricultural Development Officer (ADO) to join our Department of Economic Development and to assist in the development of programs. The position’s activities will lead to robust agricultural development in the County with emphasis placed upon programs to assist various opportunities for new or expansion of agricultural sectors and will advise on agribusiness issues and activities, promoting new and expanded local agribusiness opportunities. The ADO will serve as liaison between County Administration, various boards, commissions and committees relating to agricultural activities.

This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement through Virginia Retirement System.

The selected candidate will have responsibility for performing varied professional assignments in the field of agriculture.

Areas of Responsibility:
• Develop, present, maintain and periodically update the agriculture development plan
• Assess economic trends in the agricultural sector; to assist in cultivating an environment conducive for agricultural enterprises
• Research and develop programs for crops and livestock for new opportunities and production methods to enhance various agricultural sectors
• Seek funding sources for identified economic development and agribusiness projects and prepare grant applications
• Coordinate with various local, state and federal agencies for the benefit of the County and represent the county at agricultural conferences and meetings
• Expand business retention and attraction efforts through identification of specialty agricultural groups who share common interests, assist with the organization of new groups, and serve in an advisory capacity to foster new agricultural businesses
• Work with local education system, Community Colleges and VA Tech/VA State to develop a new generation of agricultural produces and associated programs
• Assist with and develop programs and events relating to agricultural education activities and agricultural heritage
• Work as part of County Economic Development team to recruit, retain, and expand the County’s overall economic and agribusiness tax base

Education and Experience:
• Master’s of Science in Agriculture or related field
• Ten (10) year’s direct agricultural experience
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions relating to agricultural development and/or programs and certifications for farming and agricultural use
• Knowledge of agricultural development programs at the local, state and federal level
• Thorough knowledge of the basic laws, codes, and ordinances of regulation underlying a municipal corporation and the agricultural development both on public and private sectors

Botetourt County is accepting applications to fill two part-time seasonal maintenance worker positions in the Parks and Recreation Depart­ment. Preferred qualifica­tions in­clude experience in land­scaping and grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, shoveling and the operation of tools and equipment needed to perform these duties including riding and push mowers, weed-trimmers and hand tools. This position will primarily work Mon-Fri 7:00am to 3:30pm, up to 24 hrs per week.  Some periodic evening or weekend duty may be required. The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
