GIS Specialist, part-time

Botetourt County has an immediate opening for a part-time of GIS Specialist in our Technology Services Department.  This position offers a flexible work schedule, with hours being worked Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and will average 24 per week; holiday pay, sick leave, and accrued vacation leave included.

This position requires:

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Geography, GIS or related field and a minimum of 2 years of current experience using ArcGIS software (ESRI Platform) — or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in ESRI GIS platform with high emphasis in creating content within ArcGIS Online
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations such as file transfer, file manipulation; participate in upgrades and patch management as it pertains to GIS operations
  • Ability to stay abreast of current and emerging GIS technologies and industry practices and provide future direction for GIS operations
  • Experience with data analysis in GIS environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to train new users on ArcGIS Online and assist with ArcGIS mapping software issues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Ability to multitask, excellent attention to detail, manage time, records and resources wisely, and prioritize and perform work with minimal supervision

Starting rate of pay: Minimum $17.19 per hour or more, DOQ

Custodian 

Botetourt County is accepting applications to fill a full-time Custodial position in the Recreation and Facilities Department.

Starting salary for the position is based on experience and qualifications. Included with the compensation is an excellent benefits package including state retirement benefits through the Virginia Retirement System.

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, performs repetitive manual work involving the efficient and effective cleaning of County buildings. Ensures safe and proper use of materials and equipment, such as chemicals, vacuums, buffers and carpet extractors. Good knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Related experience and/or building maintenance work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic computer skills for using County e-mail.

Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving record.

Position is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical to include alcohol and drug screening.

Salary range: $22,000 – $33,000

EMT-Firefighter – BLS/ALS, full-time

Botetourt County is accepting applications for full-time EMT/Firefighter-BLS and EMT/Firefighter-ALS positions. These positions will report directly to the Department of Fire & EMS, but will also work closely with volunteer fire & EMS agencies as a part of the combined Fire & EMS system. As a member of an all-hazards response organization, duties will include rescue and the provision of emergency medical care and transport of the sick and injured, firefighting, hazardous materials response and community risk reduction.

Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age, valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record

Must be able to pass standard medical exams and physical ability/practical skills tests. Will be required to perform all physical tasks associated with emergency medical services, fire suppression and related activities.

Starting salary for the positions will be based on qualifications. Comprehensive benefit package includes VRS retirement (w/ LEOS), health, dental, and life insurance, EAP and educational reimbursement opportunities. Excellent opportunities for advancement.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
