Recreation Programs Coordinator

Botetourt County has an immediate opening for the position of Recreation Programs Coordinator- Recreation and Facilities Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Recreation Programs Coordinator performs administrative and physical duties associated with the operation of the County’s adult and youth recreation programs and special events. The standard work schedule may vary to include nights and/or weekends. This position exercises supervision of part-time staff and coordinates work with contractors. 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and scheduling of all adult and youth recreation programs and special events.
  • Assists in coaches training and certification programs.
  • Assists in the training of officials.
  • Assists in conducting background checks for youth sport coaches.
  • Conducts program evaluations.
  • Conducts evaluations of coaches.
  • Conducts evaluations of officials.
  • Operates and maintains department and school facilities and equipment.
  • Communicates regular changes to activity schedules due to weather and user group conflicts.
  • Regularly engages with the public in conflict resolution for activity related matters.
  • Develops public relations programs; meets with community organizations, recreation booster clubs, and the general public to consider current and future recreation needs.

Job Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration or related field, preferred.
  • One to three years of professional experience in parks and recreation administration preferred.

Knowledge of sports and recreation programs as well as the preparation needed to properly organize them.

Children’s Services (CSA) Coordinator

Botetourt County has an immediate opening for the position of Children’s Services Act Coordinator Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Children’s Services Act Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and oversight of mandated services rendered under the Children’s Services Act for At Risk Youth and Families. This position is professional and managerial in nature, providing resources and knowledge to both internal and external audiences, including policy-making bodies.  This position  will have high public exposure and will be a public representative of the County during the normal course of work overseeing the County’s CSA mandated services.  

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for coordinating and facilitating monthly Family Assessment Planning Team (FAPT) and Community Policy Management Team (CPMT) meetings.
  • Identifies training needs for participants (FAPT, CPMT, Service Coordinators and community stakeholders).
  • Responsible for scheduling meetings; preparing reports and materials; oversees recording and distribution of meeting minutes; reviewing cases; and presenting funding requests for CMPT and FAPT.
  • Assists CPMT in writing, interpreting and implementing local policies and procedures.
  • Distributes parent & provider notices, parent co-pay notices, questionnaires to families, ansd is responsible for receiving progress reports on clients, and updates client files.
  • Meets with families to provide a better understanding of FAPT paperwork and the program and provides families and community agencies with appropriate referrals.
  • Trains case managers , monitors compliance of child assessment tool, CANS, with requirements and deadlines.

Job Requirement:

  • Position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human services, public health or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional work experience preferred
  • Must have thorough knowledge of community-based at risk youth services, service providers, and CSA laws, regulations and policies.

Parks and Sports Field Technician II

We are looking for a self-motivated, task oriented, results driven and energized lead technician, with a good work ethic to assist with maintenance and repair parks and sports fields for sports and general citizen use.

What you’ll do:                                                        

  • Leading Maintenance Tech 1 and seasonal staff in the maintenance of athletic fields, park facilities and other County property.
  • Mowing, trimming, laying out and marking fields for various sports events, trash pickup, general cleaning of grounds, restrooms, concession stands and snow removal.
  • Care and routine maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Keeping daily records of tasks performed.
  • This position will work primarily Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.; however work may be performed at varying hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This position requires working outdoors and the ability to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity throughout the work day.

What we’re looking for:

  • 2 years’ experience operating equipment associated with parks and sports field maintenance (examples: tractor, various mowers (zero turn, reel, push and walk behind), aerator, truck and trailer, roller and ventrac.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and maintenance, ability to troubleshoot minor problems such as, belts, filters, batteries and spark plugs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public and other County staff.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions to meet deadlines.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s license and have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical that includes alcohol/drug screening and on-going random screenings.

Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months of hire.

Recreation Site Supervisor, seasonal part-time

Botetourt County is accepting applications to fill multiple seasonal site supervisor positions in the Recreation and Facilities Department.  Preferred qualifications include a general knowledge of football, basketball, and soccer.  Applicants should be a quick learners and must be willing to diffuse problems that take place at sporting events.  Examples of work will include, opening and closing facilities, set up equipment and player benches as needed, sweep gym floors, clean utilities as needed and supervise spectators.  This position will work varying hours as needed. The hours would be 5:30pm to 10pm on weekdays, Saturdays 8am to 3pm, and Sundays 12:30pm to 6:30pm.  Applicants must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving record.  Applicants are subject to a criminal background check and recommended to obtain a CPR certification.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
