Payroll Specialist, full-time

Are you the Payroll Professional We are Searching For?

Botetourt County is searching for a full-time Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources Department. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including state retirement,.

The successful candidate should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in payroll processing and hold an active Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC); Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

County payroll is processed once per month on the last working day of the month for approx. 400 employees; most have direct deposit.

Areas of Responsibility:

· Conduct monthly payroll procedures including: Initiating Pay Cycle at the beginning of each month, initiating payroll processing procedures prior to pay day, and finalizing payroll and distribution registers prior to sending to the County Treasurer for approval and payroll check processing.

· Reconcile monthly distribution register after payroll; log differences on an Excel spreadsheet which is sent to the Treasurer’s office used to create a journal entry for corrections to the General Ledger.

· Review for completion and approve timecards in the electronic time keeping system; receive and enter time worked in the payroll system for departments not utilizing the electronic time keeping system.

· Set-up payroll deductions for and maintain child support orders, garnishments, tax levies and liens in the payroll system.

· Compute and submit quarterly reports for state tax, 941 for FICA and federal tax, VEC unemployment report, and mutltiple worksite report for state and federal labor bureaus.

· Serve as key departmental team member in providing assistance to employees inquiries concerning concerning payroll policies and procedures.

· Create and maintain all pay codes, deduction codes, bank codes and annual tax tables in the payroll system.

· Responsible for accurately reporting additions and changes to the 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan and remitting monthly employee deductions.

· Responsible for ensuring the monthly snapshot from Virginia Retirement System is accurate, reconciled with the payroll register and remitting monthly employee deductions.

· Responsible for ensuring monthly changes to optional life insurance through Securian are accurate and remitting monthly employee deductions.

· Submit monthly EFTPS report and payment of federal taxes, file U. S. Department of Labor Statistics Report monthly.

Salary range: $35,753 – $53,630, starting salary based on experience and qualifications

Sports Field Technician

Botetourt County is recruiting for multiple Sports Field Technicians to join our Department of Maintenance These are full-time positions with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement.

The Sports Field Technician must have specialized knowledge of turf characteristics and maintenance as well as familiarity with sports field marking requirements and standards in order to operate and maintain Tier 1 sports fields.

Responsibilities:

· Maintains, evaluates, repairs and prepares sports fields and related facilities, to include top dressing, general problem solving of damage on the fields, field marking and prep, general field and facility clean-up, maintenance and preparation

· Record keeping of field maintenance (seeding, fertilizing, aerating), pesticide usage chemicals used, how much used, where applied and weather conditions)

· Keeping service maintenance records for vehicles, trailers, mowers and other equipment (track shop visits, state inspections, oil changes, filter changes, etc.

Knowledge of:

· Demonstrated knowledge of practical turf characteristics and management, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease management

· Intermediate knowledge of agronomy and environmental turfgrass management practices

· General knowledge of fertilizers, nutrient supplements, pesticides and herbicides

Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

· 2 years of experience maintaining sports fields, painting and field layout, infield skin, base anchor and pitching rubber placement, operating equipment associated with park and sports field maintenance (tractor, mowers (zero turn, reel, push, and walk behind) aerator, roller, ventrac, truck and trailer

· Any combination of experience equivalent to the requirement above may be accepted

· Experience with warm and cool season grass and the ability to differentiate the two

· Experience managing turf within the Transition Zone strongly preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION: THE FILE CLERK – WAGE IS ASSIGNED OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ENSURES COURT’S INSTRUCTIONS ARE EXECUTED AND LEGAL PAPERS ARE PREPARED/HANDLED WITH ACCURACY AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPROPRIATE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: MANAGEMENT OF FILE ROOM & MAINTENANCE OF COURT FILES, ANSWERING PHONE INQURIES AND ANY OTHER ASSIGNEMENTS GIVEN BY CLERK.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT REQUIRED BUSINESS COURSES PREFERRED. REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL OFFICE OPERATION (TYPING, FILING, RECIEPTING, DATA ENTRY). MUST HAVE VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILL.

Recreation

The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
