Examples of work performed include:

Promotes with enthusiasm the library’s resources, services, events, social media channels, etc. to the community

Provides prompt and accurate circulation services, including discharge, checkouts, patron registration, shelving, etc.

Offers knowledgeable and current readers’ advisory, including suggestions for books, movies and music in all formats

Turf Manager

Botetourt County is recruiting for the position of Turf Manager to join our Department of Maintenance. This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement.

The Turf Manager is responsible for the operation and maintenance of sports fields, manages and assists department staff, develops specifications for and oversees the purchase, inventory, maintenance and repair of products and equipment and the purchasing of services. Renders professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to supervisors and user groups, as required.

Responsibilities:

· Direct responsibility for implementing and managing programs for Tier 1 fields and oversight responsibility for implementing and managing for Tier 2 and Tier 3 fields

· Manages and assists in the implementation of a sport turf fertility program including irrigation

· Manages and assists with the athletic field maintenance and game set-up for sporting events; ensures fields are safe and playable

· Assists with and supports the development of annual operating and capital budgets and 5-year capital improvement plan

Knowledge of:

· Advanced knowledge of agronomy and environmental turfgrass management practices including pest/disease/weed management, an understanding of soil chemistry; thorough knowledge of fertilizers, nutrient supplements, pesticides and herbicides

· Knowledge of cool and warm season turf, working knowledge of sports field construction principles, practices and methods

· Thorough understanding of the sports governing bodies’ requirements for field layout and marking

· Supervising staff, creating and coordinating staff daily, weekly and monthly work schedules

Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in turf management or related field preferred

· 5 years professional experience in maintenance of grounds and sports fields or similar activities, including use of related tools, equipment and machinery required

· Minimum of 3 years responsible management experience, including the management of personnel and teams required

· 2 years experience administering a comprehensive turf management program required

Sports Field Technician

Botetourt County is recruiting for multiple Sports Field Technicians to join our Department of Maintenance These are full-time positions with an excellent benefits package, including state retirement.

The Sports Field Technician must have specialized knowledge of turf characteristics and maintenance as well as familiarity with sports field marking requirements and standards in order to operate and maintain Tier 1 sports fields.

Responsibilities:

· Maintains, evaluates, repairs and prepares sports fields and related facilities, to include top dressing, general problem solving of damage on the fields, field marking and prep, general field and facility clean-up, maintenance and preparation

· Record keeping of field maintenance (seeding, fertilizing, aerating), pesticide usage chemicals used, how much used, where applied and weather conditions)

· Keeping service maintenance records for vehicles, trailers, mowers and other equipment (track shop visits, state inspections, oil changes, filter changes, etc.

Knowledge of:

· Demonstrated knowledge of practical turf characteristics and management, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease management

· Any combination of experience equivalent to the requirement above may be accepted

· Experience with warm and cool season grass and the ability to differentiate the two

· Experience managing turf within the Transition Zone strongly preferred

Grounds Maintenance Technician

Maintenance and Recreation Secretary

The Maintenance and Recreation Secretary performs a variety of administrative, clerical and general office tasks for Botetourt County’s Maintenance and Recreation Departments. · Responsible for overseeing the general care, maintenance and operation of office machines and equipment.

· Disseminates Recreation Department information to the public and responds to inquiries.

· Responsible for adminstration of facilities maintenance software ticket requests for service.

· Responsible for processing Maintenance and Recreation departmental bills and invoices.

· Coordinates with National Alliance for Youth Sports regarding coaches, officials and parents’ matters, including organization and submittal of NAYS-related fees.

· Responsible for receiving and processing recreation-related activity fees and submitting them to the County Treasurer’s Office.

Job Requirement:

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Supplemental college course work related to position preferred.

· Considerable experience in secretarial or administrative work with a minimum of 2 years.

· Must have effective oral and written communication skills for positively interacting with the public and county staff.

This position will conduct work activities in an office setting but mostly requires working in outside environmental conditions with exposure to residential construction jobsite hazards.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is continually looking for dedicated volunteers to support its various programs and activities. The County utilizes volunteers to support parks and playing fields, coach youth sports teams, and promote its many programs. Additionally, the County works collectively with seven booster clubs in the area made up entirely of volunteers, which support and organize local youth sports leagues.
