2014 Summer Reading Program Announced


Fincastle, VA — The Botetourt County Libraries are pleased to announce plans for its 2014 Summer Reading Program. The program is sponsored by the Botetourt County Friends of the Library. Prizes for the program are provided by the Friends and some additional sponsors. Registration begins June 1 at any Botetourt County library location, including Blue Ridge, Buchanan, Eagle Rock, and Fincastle.

The traditional reading program for young children up through those who have completed fifth grade will    continue this year, and there are also programs for young adults and adults! There will be a host of events for children ranging in age from preschool up through those who have completed fifth grade. All of the Botetourt libraries will host these programs: Pete and Sam: a musical puppet show; Magic with Michael Chamberlin; Uno, Dos, Tres con Andres: a celebration of Latin culture and music; animals with Mill Mountain Zoo; and, Matt   Sandbank Shadow Puppets. In addition, there will be a movie day and appearances by the Little Critters Petting Zoo. There will be some great prizes for this age group including a drawing for a $100 Toys ‘R Us Gift Card. All children who complete the minimum reading requirements will be eligible for prizes.

The Young Adult program this year is focused on reading. Teens who have completed grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate. Teens must read a book and then write a brief two or three sentence review on an entry form to be eligible for the grand prize. The prize is a Kindle HD Fire! Entries may be submitted for each book read. Forms may be picked up and turned in at any of the libraries. The program begins June 1 and ends July 31.

The Adult program follows a format like the teen program. Adults must read a book and provide a brief review of it for posting in the library. Forms are available at the libraries. An entry may be submitted for each book read.   The amazing grand prize is a two-night stay for two people at the Cedar Crest Inn in Asheville, NC. Tickets to the Biltmore estate are part of the prize. The adult program will begin June 1 and end July 31. Adults must be at least 18 years of age.
