Pink Effect for Breast Cancer Awareness at Lord Botetourt and James River Home Football Games
Fincastle, VA – The Botetourt County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism will be partnering with Lord Botetourt and James River High Schools in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by sponsoring a Pink Effect at two upcoming home football games.
Lord Botetourt will celebrate Pink Effect on Friday, October 24th versus Wlliam Fleming and James River will celebrate on Friday, October 31st versus Covington. The Department will be marking the playing fields with special pink ribbons and other pink highlights. The schools will have donation stations set at each entrance and concession area as well as volunteers within the grand stands collecting donations. All donations will be given to the local chapter of Susan G. Komen in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Marking the field for the Pink Effect was the idea of Mike Spence, Maintenance Superintendent for the Department; although, both schools’ Athletic Directors were immediately on board when the idea was proposed,” said Jay Ratcliffe, Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. “We also encourage spectators to support the effort by wearing pink, as each home football team, marching band, and cheerleaders will all be participating with the events as well.
