Community Reaches Out After Blue Ridge Fire


Fincastle, VA — In the evening of Thursday, May 7, 2015, units from Botetourt County Fire and EMS responded to a reported house fire on Willowbrook Lane in Blue Ridge. The family members and seven puppies survived the incident; however, the structure and its contents were a total loss. As a follow-up to this tragic event, several civic-minded individuals and Botetourt County Fire and EMS have jointly coordinated with Bonsack United  Methodist Church to receive donations for the family.

Bonsack United Methodist Church, located at 4493 Bonsack Road NE, Roanoke, VA 24012, has agreed to serve as a donation center for items to support the family. The drop-off location is a house next to the church, located at 4477 Bonsack Road NE, Roanoke, VA 24012. They will accept items beginning Saturday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They will also accept items on Sunday, May 10, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the church and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the house. The church will accept furniture, household, clothing, and cash donations. Sizes for clothing donations are as follows:

In addition to the charitable efforts by citizens and the church, the Botetourt County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Union #4762 will be donating a prom dress and shoes to the teenage female since those items were destroyed in the fire. These efforts truly are a testament to the strong community bonds in the County.
