IMPORTANT NOTICE OF CANCELLATION OF VOTER REGISTRATION RECORDS
As required by § 24.2-428.2 of the Code of Virginia and in compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), 52 USC § 20501 et seq, Botetourt County Department of Elections & Voter Registration has removed from the active voter rolls, any person who did not take action in response to an official request for confirmation of their address within the time allowed by law effective June 22, 2021. Voters contained on this cancellation list were placed into an “inactive” status on or before August 8, 2019, did not respond to multiple notices for confirmation of their address, and have not voted in any election or updated their voter registration record between August 8, 2019 and May 20, 2021. The full text of this statute is available through the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Elections website (elections.virginia.gov).
A complete list of all voters whose records have been cancelled pursuant to this code section is available for review at the Botetourt County Department of Elections & Voter Registration, 2 East Main Street, Fincastle during regular business hours. Voters may check view and/or update their voter registration status on the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Elections website (elections.virginia.gov).
Any voter who believes they were removed in error should contact the Botetourt County Department of Elections & Voter Registration, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at (540) 928-2120 to discuss their registration. Voters who are qualified to vote in the Commonwealth of Virginia may complete a new voter registration application in-person at the above listed office, at any DMV office or online at elections.virginia.gov to have their record reinstated.

As provided for in §24.2-106 of the Code of Virginia, Botetourt County’s Electoral Board is comprised of three members serving staggered three-year terms. Two members represent the party occupying the Governor’s office and the third member represents the party with the next highest number of votes for Governor at the last preceding gubernatorial election. The Board is responsible for the appointment and supervision of the Director of Elections & General Registrar and oversight of the election process.
